Physician Biographies

Keith D. Falcao, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Falcao graduated from Dow Medical College and completed general surgery internships in Canada, New York, and Baltimore. After finishing his surgical residency at St. Agnes Hospital, Dr. Falcao established Maryland Surgeons in 1979 with offices in Baltimore County and Howard County.

Dr. Falcao is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His achievements include the introduction of colonoscopy to the Department of Surgery at St. Agnes Hospital and performing the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Howard County General Hospital in 1990. At St. Agnes Hospital, he currently serves as the Director of the Hernia Center and is active in training General Surgery residents.

Deepak Merchant, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Merchant graduated from Ahmedabad Medical School in 1973 and completed his general surgery residency at St. Agnes Hospital. He has been in private practice in Baltimore and Howard counties since 1980. Dr. Merchant has surgical privileges at Howard County General Hospital and St. Agnes Hospital.

An excellent teacher and surgeon, Dr. Merchant enjoys working with the surgical residents at St. Agnes Hospital. Many times over the years, the surgical residents have chosen him as Best Attending Physician and Teacher. Dr. Merchant is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery.


G. Michael Meyer, M.D., M.S., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Meyer is a 1983 graduate of the Oral Roberts University School of Medicine. After completing a residency in General Surgery, Dr. Meyer did a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at Tulane University Medical Center. He joined Maryland Surgeons in 1990 where he established his practice in general surgery and surgical oncology.

Dr. Meyer is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. The Maryland Board of Physicians has identified him as a specialist in Surgical Oncology. Dr. Meyer's special interests include malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies, breast cancer, thyroid malignancies, melanoma, and soft tissue sarcoma.


Kiran J. Parikh, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Parikh received his Medical Degree from Goa Medical College in 1973. He established his own practice in general surgery in 1985 upon completion of his surgical residency at St. Agnes Hospital. He joined Maryland Surgeons in 1995 and has served as President of the Professional Staff at Howard County General Hospital.

Dr. Parikh has a special interest in laparoscopic procedures and breast surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Dr. Parikh is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.


Michael Macon, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Macon is a graduate of George Washington University of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at St. Agnes Hospital in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army from 1989-1993 and was Chief of General Surgery at the Gorgas Army Community Hospital in Panama as well as Kimbrough Army Community Hospital at Fort Meade. Dr. Macon entered private practice in 1993 and joined Maryland Surgeons in 2000.

Dr. Macon serves as Section Chief of General Surgery, Assistant Chief of the Department of Surgery, and is the Medical Director of the Center for Breast Care at Howard County General Hospital. He also served as the President of the Professional Staff in 2006. Dr. Macon is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.


Susan L. Behen, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Behen completed her general surgery residency at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Texas at Houston. As Assistant Chief of Surgery at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Dr. Behen had an Academic Appointment at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine from 1994 to 1998. She entered private practice in Howard County in 1998 and joined Maryland Surgeons in 2001.

Dr. Behen is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.


Mona Duncan, M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Duncan graduated from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges magna cum laude and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1998. She completed her residency in general surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.

Dr. Duncan joined Maryland Surgeons in 2005 and is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor medical society.

While working at the Baltimore VA Hospital, she twice was awarded the Gold VA Pin, an award certificate for "Caring and Courtesy." Dr. Duncan has a special interest in endocrine and breast surgery.


Marsha C. Nelson, M.D., M.P.H., Associate F.A.C.S.

Dr. Nelson graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park with a degree in biology and a Master of Public Health degree from Tulane University in 1998. She received her medical degree from New York Medical College in 2002 and completed her residency in general surgery at Christiana Care Medical System in Newark, Delaware.

Dr. Nelson joined Maryland Surgeons in 2008 and is Board Eligible by the American Board of Surgery. She is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Association of Women Surgeons.

Dr. Nelson has a special interest in laparoscopic and breast surgery. She has surgical privileges at St. Agnes Hospital and Howard County General Hospital. At St. Agnes Hospital, she will be working at the Wound Center as well as training Surgical Residents.
